Clemente and his Tricycle (1958)<\/span><\/h2>

Gabriel Cuallad\u00f3 always considered himself an\u00a0amateur\u00a0<\/em>photographer,\u00a0<\/em>as he did not make a living from photography in the strictest sense. However, his photography represented a substantial change at the time, leaving traditional photography behind to develop a more humanistic work: without artifice and simple.<\/p>

In 1946 he moved to Madrid to complete his military service and then he went on to work in the express transport company managed by his uncle, Cuallad\u00f3 Recaderos, with several offices in the capital city. The picture of\u00a0Clemente and his<\/em>\u00a0Tricycle\u00a0<\/em>was taken precisely at one of the company\u2019s headquarters, and Clemente was one of those deliverymen who worked with him.<\/p>

With his Leica and his Rolleiflex he captured what was happening around him with a clear tenderness in his gaze and great naturalness in his models, who he used to portray when they were seemingly unaware of the camera.<\/p>

In 1988 the transport company closed and from that moment on Cuallad\u00f3 dedicated himself entirely to photography. Despite considering himself only an amateur photographer, he received Spain\u2019s National Photography Award in 1994 and the Gold Medal of the\u00a0C\u00edrculo de Bellas Artes de Madrid<\/em>\u00a0in 1998.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Gabriel Cuallad\u00f3<\/h2>

Masanasa, 1925 \u2014 Madrid, 2003<\/p>

An amateur photographer, as he called himself, he did not make a living from photography in the strictest sense. He worked in the transport company he inherited from his uncle. His work represented a substantial change in his time, when he became interested in a more humanist approach to photography, which he carried out in a simple, straightforward manner, without tricks. He liked to photograph anonymous people from his environment with stories to tell. He won Spain\u2019s National Photography Award in 1994.<\/p><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
