Faced with this collective need, some photographers use their images to show things just as they are to the world. Others, however, show the universe by first introducing a meaning and placing it before the audience\u2019s eyes. Juan Manuel D\u00edaz Burgos prefers this second interpretation, thus going beyond what is shown explicitly.<\/p><p>His first project on American soil,\u00a0<em>Ra\u00edz<\/em>\u00a0<em>de sue\u00f1os<\/em>\u00a0(<em>Root of dreams<\/em>) took him to the Dominican Republic with the aim of giving a broad view of how life is in that country. This work focuses on a\u00a0<em>Batey,<\/em>\u00a0where sugarcane workers are housed. It was there that he met En\u00f3. The combination of the road, the suitcase and the child ignited Juan Manuel\u2019s imagination, and provided the image with a meaning that went beyond its literal reading: a reflection of his feelings about photography. During the following years he went back to the same place bringing toys that he distributed among the children. In 1976, with a Canon FTb, he began to freely explore the world of photography. His work has focused on Latin American countries, mainly Cuba, the Dominican Republic and Peru. He is the author of the books\u00a0<em>Historias de playa<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Piel Canela<\/em>,\u00a0<em>El Deseo<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Malec\u00f3n de La Habana<\/em>,\u00a0<em>El Per\u00fa de Vargas
