Sergio Belinchón

Goodbye friend (2011)

Sergio Belinchón is a contemporary photographer and graphic artist who feels completely at home in open environments where the natural and the artificial go hand in hand.

Part of his work reflects Europe’s vision of the Far West, influenced by the entertainment culture. Spaghetti Westerns –low-budget European productions that were all the rage in the 1960s and 1970s– became very popular on the big screen. Some of them were filmed in Huesca, where Belinchón traveled to talk with some of the extras and check the scars left by the passage of time and the human hand in this land.

In this scene, he follows in the footsteps of a wandering horseman looking for a place to water his horse and perhaps settle down, a man who has no trouble crossing highways or watching airplane contrails in the sky as he continues on his way.

Belinchón also works with video as a form of expression, carrying out projects in which both media complement each other. One of them is the remake he made of Sergio Leone’s original film The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. One hundred and sixty-four minutes positioning the tripod exactly to the millimeter just where it was placed in the original film, using the same optics, framing and camera movements.

He lives in Berlin, where he founded the Invaliden1 Galerie, a platform he uses to showcase his work and that of the international community of artists based in the city.
